Straight answers

  • Your work is done on your own PC by AI models you choose to install.
  • Joe uses the internet for setup, downloading programs and models, update checks and a few features. It isn't an "offline" app, and it says so.
  • Joe doesn't control third-party models, add-ons or services you connect. That choice is yours.
  • Free, open source, no subscriptions.

Questions

Is Joe really free?

Yes. Joe is open source under the GPL-3.0 license: free to use, share and change. No subscriptions, no paid tiers.

Do I need to know about AI to use it?

No. Joe checks your PC, offers to install what he needs (with a checkbox for each thing) and picks models that fit your hardware.

Does Joe need the internet?

For setup, downloading programs and models, update checks and a few features, yes. The day-to-day work runs on your own PC.

What kind of PC do I need?

Writing works on most modern PCs. Pictures and especially video need a graphics card; the setup check tells you what yours can do.

Who made Joe?

sirgijoe, with Claude helping write the code, and Joe himself drafting parts of his own guides.

Is Joe finished?

Joe is in beta: he works today and is tested on Windows, but expect rough edges. The installers come with the first release; until then he runs from the source on GitHub with Python 3.11.4 or newer. Please report anything that breaks.

Made by sirgijoe, Claude and Joe himself

Joe even drafted parts of his own guides overnight. Spotted a bug or have an idea? Open an issue on GitHub.
